Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. It honors the Hispanic Americans and the diverse people of Spanish-speaking backgrounds in the Country. They come together and celebrate their shared heritage. It can help people connect with their roots and strengthen their identity. Some of my family traditions are going to Mexico in the winter and playing games, playing sports, having parties, eating, watching football, going on trips/vacation, going to museums and Broadway shows, having friends come over, eating popcorn, and having snacks. I always celebrate by watching the parade, cooking a cultural meal, learning a dance, and attending cultural events.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month is important because it’s time to reflect on the history of Hispanic people in the United States and how they have shaped the country. It’s a time to recognize the contributions of the people to the United States and to challenge stereotypes about them. It’s also important because it’s a time to celebrate and unify as a community. It can be a time to carry on the strength of ancestors who faced obstacles and barriers. These are all important to me because they offer an opportunity to learn about and celebrate the diversity and resilience of Latinas and Latinos. I like to be unified with my family on both sides. Everyone in my family lives on different sides of the world.
I have two Latin American heritages, Spanish and Mexican, and one European heritage, Swiss. I think this offers an opportunity to learn about and celebrate the diversity of my country’s heritage. My grandmother, godmother, and my dad’s sisters all live in Mexico, while my cousins live in Europe.
I really like celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month because it brings together different things that are unique to me.
