Courage – what I learned from Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman by Selina

January 20, 2021 by Marjorie Madfis Leave a Comment

My name is Selina and  I am a trainee with Yes She Can. I joined the job skills development program in October 2020.

Today I watched the inauguration of the President on January 20, 2021.

Amanda Gorman, who read her poem at the inauguration today, is a beautiful young lady who knows how to write. She read a great poem at President Biden’s inauguration, which proves that we are a strong country, and we never gave up.

Amanda Gorman is the youngest poet and writer that we know of so far. She showed great enthusiasm and self-confidence. I liked that she showed great motivation and stood strong as she spoke to our country with enthusiasm, courage and confidence. She is very inspiring to me.

At our Yes She Can skills class this week,  we were talking about self-awareness and self-confidence. It is good to have self-confidence, because it helps you to be a strong person who knows how to stand up for yourself. It also helps you become more courageous and more positive about yourself. I think people with low confidence will eventually gain their confidence if they try new things and have a positive attitude about their lives.
