24 Hours of Giving Local!
For 24 hours on May 5th, everyone across American is being encouraged to give back to their local communities by supporting organizations that tackle today’s most critical issues.
So, I am asking you to include Yes She Can Inc. in your giving plans.
Yes She Can is dedicated to developing job skills for young women with autism. We are addressing a huge societal challenge: the fact that 80% of adults with autism are unemployed – while most have the potential and desire to work.
We have a transformative program: we operate Girl AGain, a resale boutique, as a venue to teach job skills. Our store is in White Plains, NY. Is this local for you? Well, the store might not be, but the model will be. What we are doing is inspiring other parents and organizations to follow our lead. We need to keep evolving and increasing our sophistication in our training methods and in our ability to impact the lives of our trainees. Yes She Can is a leader in the autism employment movement.
We currently have more than 12 trainees and interns working in the store, and more waiting to join.
We leverage our trainees’ affinity and expertise in American Girl by sell gently used American Girl dolls, accessories and books to delighted little girls. But sales of merchandise only fund the operation of the store: rent, utilities, insurance, computers, store furnishing, our accountant, and purchases of new merchandise. We do not pay our trainees, our volunteer job coaches, our training director or our store manager/non-profit director (that would be me). We do have one employee, a young woman with autism who has learned to use Quick Books.
Employee #2
Now, one of our trainees is ready for employment. She has been with us for a year and she can manage the store independently. We would like to hire her to be our Saturday assistant store manager. This would be her first paid job!

We would also like to enhance our training program by producing training videos. Our trainees need to see what they look like and how they behave while at work. So, we plan to have a video producer record our trainees so that we can use the videos a training tools.
We need funds to accomplish these goals.
