MasterCard employees mentor Yes She Can trainees
There is no doubt that video conferencing has brought us closer, opening up opportunities to make meaningful connections and interact with people from all around the world.
On Tuesday May 11th Yes She Can Inc. and MasterCard participated in the first of two job search skills workshops.
This community engagement initiative was arranged by Volunteer New York, as part of MasterCard’s May Month of Service Program that helps develop well-rounded, purpose-driven leaders.
“The spirit of volunteering is alive and well,” said Nicole Lowrance, Corporate Relations and Service Events Manager at Volunteer New York.
MasterCard employees from different professional backgrounds, located in different countries, signed up as volunteers to share their work experiences with Yes She Can trainees.
The employees chose to participate in this workshop for many reasons but the theme of mentorship and “paying it forward” was predominant.
Each MasterCard volunteer was paired with a trainee. Prior to meeting, each trainee researched the company, reviewed the employee’s LinkedIn profile, and prepared relevant questions for their informational interview.
A Yes She Can coach joined the volunteer-trainee pair in a Zoom breakout room to facilitate the 30-minute interviews. This experience gave the trainees an opportunity to practice skills like company research, career networking and communication.
After the paired interviews, the whole group came together in the main Zoom room to share what they learned.
A second informational interviewing session with other MasterCard volunteers is planned for May 25th.
Thank you to all who participated and gave Yes She Can and their trainees the opportunity to make new connections.
