Pride month is acknowledged every June, and the 28th is Pride Day. Pride month has existed since 1970, honors all LGBTQ+ groups, and celebrates being true to yourself. The community is now more aware of acknowledging Pride Month. Some stores release specials, and some towns have parades.
My mom saw pride become an event because she grew up in New York near Greenwich Village. There was a parade near her apartment building where she lived, and Grandma said, “Do you want to go watch it? Pride month is important to me because I had a grandfather who was gay during a time when differences were not so accepted.
Although many things have been done for diversity and inclusion, much remains to be done.
These groups must have a “voice” in different places. For example, I love that Apple has excellent Apple watch faces for Pride Month and iPhone wallpaper.
Being part of Yes She Can has allowed me to interact with individuals from different backgrounds, beliefs, cultures, and preferences. We coexist as one family and, most importantly, respect each other.
