Women at work. New jobs for trainees.

October 30, 2018 by Marjorie Madfis 2 Comments

Maki joins Clarfeld Financial Advisors

Maki T. just started her new job at Clarfeld Financial Advisors in their tax department, and we are thrilled for her!   She is responsible for accurately and thoroughly scanning clients’ tax documents and digitally filing them for future access. Maki is working five mornings a week and takes the bus to her job in Tarrytown, NY.

This summer, our board member, Debra Solomon, invited Clarfeld’s general manager, Joy Soodik, to visit our program. Joy was so impressed with our program and trainees that she invited three to apply for positions at her firm.

Our coaches held a workshop at Girl AGain to work with trainees to fill out the online job application and prepare for the job interviews. We discussed the importance of establishing a rapport with the interviewer. During her interview, Maki learned that the hiring manager shared her passion for music. Another trainee discovered that Joy was an avid swimmer, like herself.

Maki’s career goal after graduating Manhattanville College has been to work in an office. The skills she gained at Yes She Can as well as her experience interning at the JCCA offices this past year have prepared her for competitive employment.

Maki continues at our training program on Thursday afternoons, honing her skills with new assignments to support our store manager in administrative tasks.

We are so proud of Maki and wish her success in her new job. Yes She Can!

Alex joins M Group Consulting

Yes She Can trainee Alexandra B.  just started her new job at M Group Consulting in White Plains, NY.    She is responsible for scanning tax documents and digitally filing them.  She is working 4 days a week.

Alex is a graduate of Purchase College.  She has expertise in digital graphic design, and a passion for animation and film.

While Alex is not using her creative skills in her new job, she has used them at Girl AGain and as a hobby.   What Alex brings to her job is her intense attention to detail, accuracy and consistency.

Alex also had participated in the application and interview practice workshop we held for our trainees.  While she did not get the first job she applied for, the whole process paid off:  After her interview at M Group she was offered her new job “on the spot”.

To continue to hone her skills, Alex will continue coming to Yes She Can’s program once a week.  Coaches will be reviewing any challenges she has had in her work week and practice them at Girl AGain.    Plus, she will be adding a new responsibility:  She will be making short videos of the store merchandise to help bring in new customers to Girl AGain.

We are so proud of Alex and wish her success at her new job.  Yes She Can!
